Do you wish your work had greater tangible impact? ๐
At Anima, we're building the next generation care enablement platform for healthcare teams. You'll be building a product that saves lives; multiple Clinical Engineers (ex-MDs and fullstack Software Engineers) quit established medical careers to join Anima, for creating impact at scale!
Our mission is to deliver precision medicine to everyone in the world, within 24 hours. We know exactly how to get there and weโre moving ferociously with focus.
Our ambition is to be the OS for all of healthcare and life sciences, through a proprietary active learning, crowdsourcing training architecture - we call it Anima 2.0. We already have one of the biggest, highest quality labelled datasets in the world.
We're profitable, growing at 100% MoM, and went from $0 ARR to $4m ARR in 19 months from launch (Apr '22). Today, we are one of the fastest growing health-tech teams in the world with top 5% of SaaS growth rate - and strong growth endurance with top 5% CAC + gross margins.
Backed by a top 1% VC and Y Combinator (home of epic companies like Airbnb, Coinbase, Stripe) ๐
We were one of the hottest companies of YCโs W21 batch: we raised over $2.5m before Demo Day within 4 days, led by Hummingbird (consistently top 1% of global returns), giving us a runway of 4+ years. Earlier this year, we closed an over subscribed Series A round of $12mm, led by Molten Ventures.
**We have a pretty unique hacker culture at Anima with a flat hierarchy: almost everyone is technical and can code. A 'knights of the round table' structure and thinking from first principles is core to our culture, and is how we've made such rapid progress**. It's reflected in how we operate:
- There's no separate founder, product & engineering teams - instead, we have Clinical Engineers who are both their own customers (MDs) and are strong fullstack engs, collaborating with pure software engineers. Due to the quality of our team, there's a heavy focus on coaching and teaching, with minimal to no line management.
- We've been able to make huge strides in the NHS because we all deeply understand the problem, grading tasks based on our engineering expertise, and real life clinical trade-offs. This deep domain knowledge is ultimately how we integrated with the major electronic health records (EMIS and SystmOne) in just 4 months.
- We're relentlessly resourceful - in 14 months, we've built an extremely loved enterprise app that users have said 'seems too good to be true'. Anima can take an information complete medical history as good or better than a typical human doctor, and automates patient comms and clinical notes. Our gross retention is >90%.
- Anima is a safe haven for free thinkers and we've been careful to build a culture where everyone feels comfortable being their complete unfiltered self, sharing their honest thoughts, feelings without ever needing to self-censor. With a highly selective acceptance rate of around 0.5-0.8%, joining Anima means becoming part of a team with exceptional talent density and your crewmates will never let you down or waste your time.
- We hire talented people who think from first principles and have high growth potential - great decision makers who deserve to have complete autonomy and are forces of nature when empowered with it. Decisions are never made in isolation by the founders. All information is transparently available to the whole team on our Notion - every meeting, decision, success, failure.
- At the same time, we are deeply collaborative, and through mutual and self-challenge, we converge towards the optimum, and decisively execute. We are united by child-like intellectual curiosity and experiment and wander freely when the right path isnโt clear. We believe all future managers should be formidable individual contributors & domain experts.
- We hire candidates from all over the world. We have remote hubs in EU West, NA and India, and plans to seed some in person teams in those areas too in the next 12 months (in addition to our fully remote teams). We offer flexibility over work schedule and location.
- We have a good time :) we've had team lunches in Duck & Waffle, Breakfast Club, dumplings in Chinatown, had private screenings in our own cinema, booked out the Sky Pool etc. We get the whole team together at least twice a year for team retreats, with the last ones in Brittany (France), La Paz (Mexico) and Tuscany (Italy)!

Our NPS is 87, weโve never churned a practice, and weโre growing very efficiently โ weโre profitable with infinite runway.
We got here by being a design-led company. User experience is at the centre of everything we do and is part our DNA; Rachel, co-founder and COO, designed all our first products.
Hi, I'm Shun, a medical doctor and CEO of Anima. Thank you for checking out this job! Weโre tackling a hugely important problem that has affected everyone in some way.
- Globally, millions of people die every year because their medical problems arenโt treated quickly enough. Hundreds of millions suffer pain, worry, and discomfort needlessly because of long waiting times.
- Weโve built ambitious software to automate the entire healthcare workflow โ from history taking consultations, to report abstraction, to recommending and saving a coded action plan for patients, ready for a human doctor to green light.
- By doing this, we get patients optimal care within 24 hours and 10x the clinical workflow in the process.
We are pretty unique among health techs in that we have both medical and engineering expertise. I wrote the first backend in Node. And as a doctor and former HM Treasury health policy advisor managing ยฃ4bn budgets in UK health spending, I have full stack domain knowledge and personal experience of the problem weโre solving.
We are technology agonistic, and collectively choose the best tools for the job. Weโre constantly looking to maximise our productivity and minimise what we call โdiscounted costโ for shipping product.
We believe is that code serves the user experience. Ideally proprietary user experiences that customers are willing to pay a lot for.
We have two separate web applications: one for clinical users and one for patients. Youโll work across both.
Who are we looking for? ๐
Weโre looking for Staff / Principal Product Designer. An exceptional individual contributor who can think from first principles and has high growth potential.
Does this sound like you? ๐
- Hungry and wants to change the world; understands the urgency and importance of what weโre doing for society
- Bored and frustrated by big companies; feels held back by red tape, bureaucracy, endless meetings, and poor decisions
- Eager to understand the big picture; the context of the company and the entire vertical
- Empathic with high-sigma product intuition; able to intuit a userโs situation, motivation, and desired outcome (even with minimal research), and translate these into optimal interactions and interfaces
- Meticulous with an eye for aesthetics; recognises the importance of details when shipping products that are used every single day and by millions of people
- An excellent communicator; creates clarity and energy when sharing work with the team or customers
- Comfortable prioritising and working iteratively; guided by user feedback, data, and company goals
- Intellectually curious; able to tackle novel challenges that lack prior precedent
- Driven to maximise productivity; not only self productivity, but team productivity
- Familiar with frontend development; appreciates the building blocks of web applications and how these come together
- Proficient in Figma
What will you be doing?
Examples of what you can expect to be doing include:
- Leading design for multiple new opportunities, from beginning to end. Weโre currently exploring how we might: manage clinical correspondence and documents; automate the treatment of patients, and integrate with the NHS application.
- Improving our existing, flagship features to maximise the affected user-minutes. For example, how might we make it faster for our clinical users to send appointment invitations to patients? This path can be traversed by clinical users hundreds of times a day.
- Collaborating with customers via Anima Champions โ an exclusive community for our most fanatical customers to share feedback on what weโre working on now and to influence what we work on next. In addition, joining customer calls and visiting them at their place of work to develop a deep understanding of their problems, wants, and needs.
- Shaping the roadmap and ensuring that we prioritise and build products that lead to the highest total network value deltas. We donโt have Product Managers (and we may never), so both thinking and execution will be required.
- Implementing the right processes at the right times to maximise discounted team productivity. Including (but not limited to) formalising our design standards and scaling our design tools so we keep shipping features that result in a high retention delta.
